Walsall College

Sue Reynolds, Head of [Hair and Beauty] School at Walsall College has been enjoying using and reaping the benefits of the support materials available on SmartScreen in conjunction with the visual approach to interactive learning available on Learnxtra.com*.

The online support portal SmartScreen, coupled with learnxtra.com fills our pool of teaching resources with effective, time saving teaching materials. We use SmartScreen to aid us in teaching the City & Guilds Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy qualifications to over 500 full time /650 part time students.

The schemes of work, handouts and worksheets available on SmartScreen are informative, usable and reinforce the learning of students. Plus, it has aided the standardisation of what we teach, how we deliver and what we deliver. The well informed materials from SmartScreen combined with Learnxtra’s ability to use graphic animation to help students understand the scientific processes involved in hairdressing techniques, makes for an outstanding resource plus, it engages students and motivates them to study outside of the classroom.

SmartScreen offers value for money. In addition to the more general qualification support materials, it also provides unit-specific support
including a sample scheme of work, sample lesson plans, individual learning plans, handouts, worksheets, activity assignments and revision guidance, to help tutors prepare learners for assessment. These materials save our tutors valuable time and can be adapted to fit in with their delivery of the qualification.

* City & Guilds work alongside Learnxtra.com – hairdressing, a new and exciting website for colleges/centres, tutors and students, developed primarily to help students visually understand hairdressing theory & science.
