Karan Leslie, Dyslexia Support Tutor, Bolton Community College, supports students undertaking Basic Skills Communication and Numeracy qualifications, specifically City & Guilds Certificate in FE Teaching level 4 as well as in other areas such as Beauty Therapy.
"SmartScreen has definitely helped engage my learners in lessons and motivated them to achieve more than they would through traditional means. The practice tests available are just like the real thing and put students at ease before a test. They can also take the tests on their own in their own time which is great and are particularly liked by my students.
Our last Ofsted inspection report confirmed that there is a good standard of guidance and support available for our learners. The report recognised that we offer well-resourced support services that contribute effectively to improving learners’ performance and I think SmartScreen is without a doubt one of the support services that helped with this. SmartScreen also plays an important role in the teaching methods we use to successfully inspire and encourage learning.
The report also acknowledged that most of our ICT rates at the college were high and had increased compared to the previous year, in my experience I think SmartScreen has helped achieve these higher ICT rates.
As a tutor SmartScreen is extremely useful for worksheets, forums and practice tests plus, the beauty therapy diagrams are used frequently as revision for a support student.
The resources on SmartScreen enrich what my learners are able to achieve and learn, and encourages them to take responsibility for their learning. For example the ability to take practice tests at their own convenience enables them to develop their learning outside of the classroom bridging the boundaries between formal and informal learning."
